Old Shire Offices / The Cranbourne Roads Board had its inaugural meeting / on April 27, 1860.
The 9 original members of the Board: / Dr. James Smith Adams (Chairman) / James Bruce / Richard Burgh Chomley / James Lecky / Edward Malloy / Alexander Patterson / Christopher Bond / Peed Patrick Thompson / John Wedge
The first secretary of the board was Edward John Tucker / and the first engineer was Robert Lecky. / On February 24, 1868, the area was declared a Shire. / The Roads Board and then the Shire Council / had their meeting at the Cranbourne Hotel.
Council met for the first time in this building on September 18, 1875. / A separate part of the building accommodated the post office. / The building was also used as a court house / and as a hall for entertainment. Council business transferred to the new Shire Offices in January, 1978. / The Post Office closed in 1987 and the building now accommodates / the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Walter Leslie (Les) Kelly OAM / In recognition of a lifetime of service /to the Cranbourne community
Les Kelly (1919 – 2007) worked tirelessly for his / community as a volunteer in many roles for a / variety of organisations, including the Society of / St Vincent de Paul, the Red Cross and the Salvation / Army. He was a Justice of the Peace, and the first / recipient of the Shire of Cranbourne Citizen of the / Year Award. Les also served the local fire brigade / for 50 years, receiving the Queen’s Medal for Long / Service and Good Conduct in 1980. He received the / Medal of the Order of Australia in 1985.
