Henry Joseph Moran was apprenticed to Mr. Guilfoyle, director of the / Melbourne Botanic Gardens at the age of fifteen. When he died at the age / of 38 in 1886, he was foreman of the Gardens in charge of glasshouses. /

This Reserve was once owned by Mr. Moran who planted the large trees. / Mr. Moran was responsible for laying out the Dandenong Gardens and / many of the old trees in the Hampton Park district are believed to have / been planted by him. / Descendants of Mr. Moran still live in the district.

    There is a memorial in Dandenong Cemetary too, apparently. The board that Casey Council put up does not say all that, so there must be a plaque in the park?

      Hi Pamela,
      yes, that is correct. There is a plaque, if you look at our photos, photo 3 shows the position of the rock the plaque is attached to and photo 4 shows the plaque in detail. By clicking on any of the photos will bring them up in a box you can scroll through to see more detail.

    I hope that when the widen Pound Road, that they do not damage this park and trees. I think they could still duplicate the road by leaving a very narrow centre median strip
