HIS CHEERY SMILE WILL BE MISSED
The cheery smile of Mr Sid Earl, who died last Tuesday in the Dandenong Hospital, will be sadly missed by his many friends in Pakenham.
Mr Earl had been in the hospital for only two weeks prior to his death.
He was a gentle, kindly man who took a sincere interest in those around him. He always appeared to be cheerful and happy with a ready smile when greeted by a friend.
He spent 31 years of his life in Pakenham and for 19 of those years he was employed as a gardener with the Shire of Berwick. He tended the gardens around she shire with loving care and took great pride in his work.
For many years he cared for the grounds of the Main Street Kindergarten and they tiny kinder children came to know and love Mr Earl.
He was born Sidney Evan Earl at Darriwell, near Geelong 74 years ago and lived at Bannockburn before moving to Pakenham.
He was a member of the Pakenham Show Committee and on Show Day took care of the children’s events in the arena.
He was also a very devoted member of the Presbyterian and later Uniting Church in Pakenham where he attended services very regularly.
He derived great pleasure from gardening and during his retirement years tended many gardens around the town.
He also joined the Pakenham Senior Citizens’ Club and was a devoted member for several years.
A funeral service for the late Mr Earl was conducted at the Pakenham Uniting Church on Thursday afternoon and he was buried in the Pakenham Cemetery.
Sincere sympathy is extended to his wife Margaret, daughter and son-in-law Valerie and George Kerr and their three young children and to his sisters, Maud Moodie of Bannockburn and Gladys Gillespie of Black Rock.
